can't beat it for the money, March 9, 2011 By This review is from: Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG HSM II Macro Zoom Lens for Pentax Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics) i purchased this lens as my "happy income tax return" present to myself and i'm very happy with it. i was using a 70-300 zoom lens that purple fringed like crazy. this sigma lens is wayyyy better, and i don't miss that extra 100mm on the long end at all. having f/2.8 through the whole zoom range is awesome. oh, and the autofocus... every lens i had up until now was a screwdrive model. most of them were reasonably quick, but the sigma HSM is a thing of beauty. it microadjusts must faster in low light. having this lens on my k-7 is wonderful for candid shots, as the combination is nearly silent.
i will warn you, this lens in a beast. i'm a 26 year old in good health and after walking with my camera and this lens around my neck for about 30 minutes, i was in pain. i expected this going into it, and you should too.

This is the one you want. I researched, studied, asked, weighed options.....and went with this one for my Pentax K20d. It's the bomb. Super fast, light enough for what it is, and super sharp. Only wish list was that the focus ring was smaller in width allowing for more width in the zoon ring...but that's super, super picky. Wish Pentax produced a lens that matched this one in this class (fast 2.8 super tele), but I couldn't imagine being happier. HSM works great.....better than on my Pentax 16-50 in that department.

Like other EX series lenses, it is well built, solid, and has quality optics. Colors are excellent and auto-focusing is nearly silent and as sharp and accurate as any other lens I've used. This lens is a must-have for medium-range shots and is the perfect companion lens to the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 lenses. Keep in mind that it isn't going to perform any miracles, as it has the same limitations as any other lens, but offers an improvement over other lenses (like the Sigma 50-500mm and the Pentax 18-250mm) when shooting in the 70-200mm range. It is large and somewhat heavy but just at the limit where you can carry and shoot with it without additional support. I support the lens with my right hand when walking from shot to shot and with my left hand when shooting. Another plus is that both zoom and focusing are entirely internal, meaning that the lens retains its ergonomics and form... Read more
